The 31st International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent (IC) elected the five (5) National Society Members to the Standing Commission (SC) for the next four (4) years, until the close of the 32nd Conference in 2015.
In addition to the elected members, there are four ex officio members – the Presidents of the ICRC and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Dr Jakob Kellenberger and Mr Tadateru Konoe, the Director of Law and Movement Cooperation of the ICRC, Dr Philip Spoerri and the Secretary General of the International Federation, Dr Bekele Geleta.

Mr Pär Stenbäck
Minister (Hon.), Finland
born in 1941
Pär Stenbäck served as Minister of Education and Minister of Foreign Affairs in Finland in the 80’s.
His Red Cross career began as secretary General of the Finnish Red Cross and it culminated in the position of Secretary General of the International Federation 1987 - 1992.
After leaving the Federation, Pär Stenbäck remained active in public life and as Red Cross volunteer, serving also as President of the Finnish Red Cross.
In 2007 he was appointed Independent Monitor of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Palestine Red Crescent Society and the Magen David Adom in Israel.
As member of the Standing Commission, he wishes to participate in the ongoing and important humanitarian dialogue; contribute to the decision-making and enhance the Commission’s capacity to mediate and build bridges between the Movement components.
He received the Henry Dunant Medal in 2009. |
