Standing Commission of the Red Cross and Red Crescent
Mrs Katevas joined the Chilean Red Cross in 1953 and worked as a voluntary nurse with the National Society in 1965.
1983-1989 she specialized in international humanitarian law communications, displaced people and refugees and restoring family links.
She was elected president of the Chilean Red Cross in 1993 remaining in this office until 2004.
She held the position of Vice-chairperson of the 27th International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent in Geneva and the 28th International Conference elected Mrs Katevas as member of the Standing Commission.
Over the past two years, she has chaired the working group advising the SC on the organisation of the 2005 Council of Delegates. She would like to see more direct contact between the National Societies and the Commission and will continue to focus efforts during the remainder of her term in office to ensure that the Standing Commission occupies the place that it deserves within the Movement, as warranted by the important issues that fall within its area of action.
