The 31st International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent (IC) elected the five (5) National Society Members to the Standing Commission (SC) for the next four (4) years, until the close of the 32nd Conference in 2015.
In addition to the elected members, there are four ex officio members – the Presidents of the ICRC and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Dr Jakob Kellenberger and Mr Tadateru Konoe, the Director of Law and Movement Cooperation of the ICRC, Dr Philip Spoerri and the Secretary General of the International Federation, Dr Bekele Geleta.

Dr Massimo Barra
M.D. (Medicine of Sports), Italy
born in 1947
Massimo Barra started as an Italian Red Cross volunteer at the age of 8; he served as its President 2005 – 2008.
He is a board member and founder of the Villa Maraini Foundation which provides adapted therapy to individuals’ with drug addiction problems. Before this second term in the Standing Commission, Massimo Barra served as its chair from end of 2009 to the International Conference in 2011.
As member of the Commission, Massimo Barra wishes to contribute to a united Movement in operational activities and to humanitarian advocacy as identified by public opinion the world over.
He wishes to reinforce the Movement as the world’s humanitarian conscience, as an organization which is respected and listened to by both governments and civil society because of its credibility and moral authority.
